Due to Utah’s continued population and economic growth, Utah continues to experience challenges to accommodate the infrastructure demands that are before us. One of these challenges or demands is the need to keep pace with water development and infrastructure. As such, in March of 2013, Governor Herbert initiated a process and appointed a team that traveled the state gaining public input on how to best meet these water challenges. In addition to this team, Governor Herbert established a 41-member water strategy advisory task force to further consider and eventually make recommendations on how to meet the water challenges. After four and a half years, this 41-member task force completed its work with 11 different strategies and nearly 100 recommendations, and submitted this report to Governor Herbert in July 2017. It is anticipated that Governor Herbert and the Utah legislature will consider these recommendations and draw upon various stake holders to help implement programs to help ensure Utah’s growing water needs are met.
