San Juan County is full of historical and archaeological sites and grand landscapes. Cliff houses and petroglyphs from ancestral pueblo people continue to baffle and delight tourists and archaeologists today. The Navajo Indians, who came relatively late to the area, now have part of their reservation in San Juan County, from the San Juan River to the Arizona border.

It is home to many well-known sites, like Lake Powell and Monument Valley.
