Leadership from the San Juan County Farm Bureau has continued an idea from last year to bring the community together during the holidays to both celebrate Christmas and to showcase agriculture’s role in the community and in the holiday.

The Board of Directors worked with Shanna Black, the agent for Farm Bureau Financial Services in Blanding, and the crew at Lewis Farms worked tirelessly to create the immersive event that has drawn thousands from the rural county.

“There wasn’t really a place for the whole community to come together during Christmas, and so that’s what we tried to do,” Black said. “We really wanted this as a way to give back to the community.”

And gather they did. In only it’s second year, the ‘Christmas on the Farm’ event drew more than 3,000 visitors in the rural county in Utah’s southeast corner.

“It truly was a farm Christmas feel, and just like on the farm, everyone pitched in to make it a success,” Black said. “We could not have done it without all the volunteers and community donations. It truly was a service to the community.”

Visitors to the farm were taken on a journey that included childhood adventures like journeys through a candy cane forest and visits with Santa, to recognizing those away from family during the holidays, and a focus on the birth of the baby Jesus in a manger and its lowly farm setting.

With attendance growing each year, the San Juan County Farm Bureau looks to continue building on this community gift in the future as an additional way to connect residents to agriculture.
