The Alabama Farmers Federation, Georgia Farm Bureau, and Florida Farm Bureaus have established relief funds to help farmers & ranchers recover from Hurricane Michael’s devastating effects, and the North Carolina Farm Bureau has set up a fund to assist in relief from Hurricane Florence earlier this year. Tax-deductible donations may be made online by entering a custom amount or choosing from preset options. All funds collected through Nov. 30 will be targeted toward farmer losses not covered by a farm-owner policy, crop insurance or disaster relief programs.

“Farmers in south Alabama have received an outpouring of support from neighbors and people across the country,” said Federation President Jimmy Parnell. “Many have asked where they can donate to help farmers who’ve lost their crops and barns, so we have created a special fund within the Alabama Farmers Agriculture Foundation to accept these gifts.”

Hurricane Michael had a devastating impact on many farmers in south and central Georgia as well. From row crops, vegetables and tree nuts to farm equipment, chicken houses and buying points, Hurricane Michael wreaked havoc on agriculture. Within 24 hours, some Georgia farmers lost entire crops. Damage from Hurricane Michael wasn’t limited to just agriculture. All along the storm’s path, homes and automobiles were damaged or destroyed and people were left homeless. The effects will be felt for many years.

Florida Farm Bureau Federation has created a relief fund to assist with the recovery from agriculture-related damage in north Florida, where winds from Hurricane Michael reached upwards of 155 miles per hour.

Money collected on behalf of the fund will support farmers and ranchers who are struggling to manage their properties in the wake of the storm. All donations to the Hurricane Michael Relief Fund for Agriculture are tax-deductible.

Though the storm happened earlier this year, the North & South Carolina Farm Bureaus are also accepting donations for their Hurricane Florence Relief Funds. In South Carolina, farm families and rural communities face estimated damages of $1.228 billion.

“Farmers in South Carolina are no strangers to hurricanes, flooding and natural disasters, especially after what we’ve experienced in the last few years,” said South Carolina Farm Bureau President Harry Ott. “They are the backbone of this state and this fund allows us to show them our support in their time of need.”

In response to this tragedy and the tremendous needs of our farmers and rural communities, North Carolina Farm Bureau has established the, “Florence Relief Fund.” Contributions to this fund will be used to support the state’s farmers and rural neighbors as recovery efforts in their communities become more apparent.
