County fairs provide a great opportunity for Farm Bureau to engage with hundreds or even thousands of people in their communities. This toolkit is designed to equip county Farm Bureau volunteers with resources and talking points to make your county fair one of your most successful events!

Farm Bureau can be involved in local fairs in a variety of ways. Identify the best ways your county Farm Bureau can be involved.

ENGAGING WITH FAIRGOERS
Information Booths

Having an information booth at your county fair is a great way to get the Farm Bureau name in the public eye. If you have willing volunteers, make it easier for them to start conversations with fairgoers by having a theme (Dairy, Corn, Farm Safety, Cows, etc.).  Add fun to your booth with an activity, like a game or a contest.

Booth Themes with Hands-on Learning

Product Booths

Is your county fair presence a food stand? A unique, desirable product makes your food booth a fair destination. Here are some ideas to help your county Farm Bureau engage with customers at the fair beyond the transaction.

  • Advertise on the Product Itself--Are you combining your food with a message that tells people about Farm Bureau? Is the Farm Bureau logo on your product? Consider putting your county Farm Bureau's logo on the food wrappers, cups, napkins, similar to what fast food restaurants do.
  • Find Ways to Educate--Use your food product as a way to educate fairgoers about agriculture. If you use local ingredients at your booth, give a shout-out to local farmers that grew the food. Include facts about your product or about agriculture in your county on napkins or on booth signage.
Sponsorships

Sponsoring a day, building, event, or award is a great way to get the county Farm Bureau's  brand in front of people Be sure you know what you get with your sponsorship--signs? ads? a mention in the program? Find out what your sponsorship entitles you to, and make sure you take advantage of it. Utah Farm Bureau has signs and banners that are available for checkout that can be used at county events.

Volunteering

Sometimes helping another group is the most efficient use of your efforts. Put on your Farm Bureau shirt or hat and help park cars, or shuttle people to work in a food booth. Like a sponsorship, find out how you can get recognition for your assistance.

Promotional Items and Giveaways

Offering giveaways with the Farm Bureau logo at the county fair can be a great way to get the attention of fairgoers.

Photo opportunities

In an age where digital media reigns supreme, people love the freedom to be silly or creative and capture the moment as a memory. Create selfie opportunities at your booth so fairgoers can freely explore their fun-loving nature. With an array of props and backdrops, attendees can transform their photos into memorable snapshots. Selfies add a layer of excitement to your event, and can also be a great marketing tool for the Farm Bureau brand. They inspire guests to interact with the brand in a fun and engaging way. Personalize backdrops or cutouts featuring the Farm Bureau logo or an event-specific hashtag. Every photo shared on social media functions as a small-scale endorsement and extends your reach to a wider audience. Photos can become treasured keepsakes for guests, leaving a lasting impression well beyond the end of your event.

Suggested Social Media Posts

Social media (Facebook, X, Instagram, etc.) can be an important tool to help generate media interest and community participation in county Farm Bureau activities. Facebook, in particular, is an excellent social media platform for an organization like Farm Bureau to use for event promotion. Consider using social media before, during, and after your county fair to encourage fairgoers to stop by your booth and engage with Farm Bureau throughout the fair.

Here are some social media campaign suggestions. Be creative and make your own.

  1. Pre-Event Push--Promote what you're doing at the county fair in advance to entice people to visit your booth or attend the event. Let people know the basics: who, what, when, and where. If what you did at last year's fair was a big hit, try sharing photos from last year to get people excited about attending again this year. Try your hand at the following suggested posts before your county fair.
    • Highlight a unique event that you sponsor.
    • Showcase the return of your "famous" food stand.
    • Share a Utah agriculture fact.
    • Promote Farm Bureau in general.
  2. Real-Time Sharing--Post photos, videos, commentary, etc. each day as the week unfolds. Give people some "live" action if they aren't able to make it to the fair or if they know others who are attending. Give them a sneak peek of games or activities. Wish 4-H'ers good luck.
  3. Post-Event Follow-up--Thank the members of your community for another wonderful county fair. It's nice to leave people with a positive image of your county Farm Bureau's community involvement.  Congratulate winners. Show 4-H'ers your continued support
